Karen Melnick is an RN, BSN, and a photographer. Her nursing experience includes mental health, community healthcare, school-based healthcare, and healthcare management. Karen’s varied nursing background means that she is well-versed in what information is critical for parents to record and how to communicate with health and wellness professionals.
As the mother of three children, Karen knows first hand how difficult it can be to remember important health-related details. Her children have experienced a variety of illnesses, both big and small. She has made many visits to medical specialists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and education professionals. She realized that there was nothing available to help parents manage the often complex health and wellness issues of their children – so she created her own!
All of the photographs decorating Your Child’s Health & Wellness Record and the companion Document Organizer have been created by Karen. She specializes in taking black and white photographs of children. She believes that children can most easily be themselves out of doors, so she takes all of her photographs in an outdoor setting. This results in images of children that are natural and profound.
Karen lives in a small community in Ontario, Canada, with her husband, three children and a multitude of pets. Her family enjoys many outdoor activities, including boating on beautiful Georgian Bay. Karen plays soccer, occasionally gets to the gym, and always makes time for coffee with friends.
